7th & 8th Grade Trip News

  • Parents Guide to CRMS New York City Trip

    Monday June 5-7, 2013

    Dear Parents,

In order for our students to better understand U.S. History and Government, the 7th and 8th graders will be invited to attend our 3 day historic field trip to New York City. We want our trip to be a positive reward for students who work hard and display solid school spirit in and around Cuba-Rushford Middle School. In order of fairness, an application process has been established.

Students must fit the follow criteria in order to apply for the trip

    1)    Students must not have any major discipline infractions (in school or out of school suspensions) all school year

    2)    Student must fill out a student application with essay component and have two teacher recommendations completed.

    3)    Students must attend school regularly. Students who miss more than 15 days of school from the beginning of the school year till April 14, 2013 (End of the 30 week marking period) without proper doctor’s excuse will not be eligible to attend.

    4)    Student must exhibit community service interests that extend outside of the school day in their essay application (examples: babysitting, church group activities, helping out neighbors, etc.)

    Selection process

A committee at each grade level will determine eligibility and will be based upon teacher recommendations and the quality of the application. Applications must reflect students best written efforts. Committee decisions are final. No applications will be accepted after the deadline date.

The student cost of this year’s trip will be $125.

Friday, February 15, 2013            Student applications are due to Mr. Capp or Mrs. K.

Friday, March 15 2013                   Money is due with permission slips. Students will be given permission slips once students are notified of acceptance.

Tuesday, May 14, 2013                 A required parent meeting will be held at to discuss the logistics of the trip once applications are evaluated and students are selected.

We hope this learning experience is a worthwhile adventure for your child. Please encourage your child to apply and explore a great city.

    Best Regards,

    Monica Kwiatkowski                                    Chris Cappelletti

    Parent Questions and Answers

Q: How come you limited the spots to 98?

    A)     We want to keep student numbers manageable so that we can make it a positive learning experience while keeping the cost of the trip down. There will be an 8-1 student to teacher ratio.

Q: Why did you decide on an application process?

    A) We wanted to be fair upon candidate selection. Also, we wanted to provide a life long learning opportunity to our students by making them fill out an application.

Q: How much will this cost?

                A) The total cost of the trip will be $125 PLUS spending cash for one lunch, one dinner and souvenirs on the trip.

Q: Will any child be denied the trip due to financial difficulties?

                A) NO- we will work with any child who has difficulty with the $125 fee. Spirit Club has graciously donated several scholarships to fill our need.

Q: What will students need to bring with them?

    A)    A list of packing essentials will come out closer to the trip.

Q: Whom do I speak with regarding any questions I have between now and May?

               A)  Please call or email: Mr. Cappelletti CCappelletti@crcs.wnyric.org or Mrs. Kwiatkowski Mkwiatkowski@crcs.wnyric.org  585-968-2650

Q: Are students allowed to bring Pre-Paid Credit Cards and use in lieu of carrying cash?

               A) According to STI Tours YES. We would strongly suggest trying them out prior to attending the trip anywhere Visa or Mastercard is accepted.

Q: If my child needs to take Tylenol or Ibruprophin for the occasional mild illness, what do we do?

            A) You must fill out the appropriate medical form and receive permission from your physician. This information/handouts will be available at our parent meeting in May. If the nurse has this record already on file, we do NOT need a second copy.

    Q: Rooming Accomodations?

A: There will be 4 students to a room. We'll be staying at the Country Inn and Suites Newark Airport http://www.countryinns.com/elizabeth-hotel-nj-07201/njnewark/rooms/roomtypes/detail

Q: Who is our security company?

A: Our 7 hour of hotel floor security for the safety of our students in the hotel will be S & D Guard Security out of Great Neck, NY. Our travel agent, STI Tours, has used this company for over a decade.
